The Longest Walk 2 was an 8,000-Mile walk for Native American Rights, Environmental Protection, and to Stop Global Warming. They walked all the way to Washington, DC, and they made it, some after walking over 5 months. Most went through the cold, rain and snow for thousands of miles on behalf of Native America, Mother Earth, and dare I say, for all of us!
When they finally reached their destination, there was not enough transportation home. Now many are being forced to walk home, or find any way they can to return home. Imagine their frustration after all they went through, only to learn that their return transportation did not exist. Imagine their fear and uncertainty at the prospect of perhaps having to walk thousands of miles to get home.
We have been in touch with Amy Wagner who is driving an old bus they were able to secure. Amy stated that the bus only gets 12-15 miles per gallon and they need approximately $2,000 for gas alone. Amy and the bus will make stops at cities along her route to stop at Western Union offices to pick up gas money. They are on their way to California. They will be dropping of people along the way including New Mexico and Arizona, and are traveling along Route I-40 West.

In April, the largest commercial slaughter of marine mammals on the planet began off Canada's Atlantic coast. By the end of the hunt, more than 300,000 baby seals will have been brutally killed—many, incredibly, as young as 12 days old. The Humane Society of the United States is on the front lines in Canada, reporting and videotaping events as they unfold and fighting to halt this atrocity.
National Park Service Sends 24 Buffalo to Slaughter, Captures 100 More; DOL Hazes Buffalo through Lake Ice, Killing Two! Why is the Montana Department of Livestock hazing these buffalo when there are no cattle in the vicinity? But there are no cattle in the West Yellowstone area, right?

Bear Butte is sacred to approximately thirty of the Plains Tribes, including Lakota, Dakota, Nakota, Northern Cheyenne and Arapaho. The Tribes, have traveled to Bear Butte for thousands of years for their annual ceremonies, generally in the months of June through August.
When people come to the sacred mountain for their ceremonies, they prepare for this journey for one year. Bear Butte is where people go for healing, or to ask for guidance about any hardships and issues they may be faced with. The sacred mountain Bear Butte and Grandmother Earth are our church.
This letter is to all those well-meaning bikers who participate in the Sturgis
Bike Rally in South Dakota, in August. We believe that the majority of you
are not aware of the destruction the rally is causing to one of Indian peoples'
most sacred sites, Bear Butte. Very few non-Indians know that for many
centuries all the Tribes of the Great Plains worshipped and conducted sacred
ceremonies at Bear Butte. It is a place for quiet prayers of thanksgiving and
for seeking spiritual guidance with ancient ceremonies.
The spring and summer months through August, is when the Tribes travel to
Bear Butte to conduct their annual ceremonies. These prayers and
ceremonies do not stop simply because the rally has started. For the past few years there has been a continual
encroachment of bars and venues heading towards the sacred mountain. Since the arrival of Sturgis County Line and other
venues next to Bear Butte, traditional people are forced to pray with loud music from bars, mufflers and flashing strobe
lights over the mountain, instead of praying in peace. In April 2008, Sturgis County Line announced they will be opening
year-round and hosting many events throughout the summer. This will make it virtually impossible to pray in peace all
summer long.
The National Native American Urban Music Association, a non-profit organization, is presenting one of it's first musical endeavors with the 1st Annual Native-E Music Awards.
The Native-E Music Awards, or NEMA for short, is the first ever Native American and Aboriginal music recognition process that will bring together both, the Mainstream and Native American & Aboriginal music industries in a way that will allow our top talent to be exposed to global music industry professionals. This effort will help bridge a gap that has separated our talent from achieving mainstream recognition and success for countless years.
Every artist who enters will have an un-biased and equal review of their talent, without the strict restrictions, timelines, industry placement, and status quo, placed upon them by other recognition processes. NEMA will utillize a panel of notable mainstream industry professionals as judges and talent scouts with production credits ranging from Snoop Dogg to Elvis Presley!
Aside from a few categories, judging will be based upon the artists' true vocal or instrumental talent. Production quality or media will have no affect on the selection of nominees and winners. Native American technical advisors will aid the judges in the traditional categories.
Destined to be the biggest Native American and Aboriginal music recognition event in years, NEMA will showcase top Native American and Aboriginal artists during the awards show, as well as, featuring "live" performances from popular mainstream artists.
The deadline for submissions is July 31, 2008. The rules and forms for submission can be found and downloaded on NEMA's website at www.native-e-musicawards.com. The awards show is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2008. NEMA is looking to hold the event at the Laguna Pueblo's Route 66 Casino & Hotel.
For more information about submitting music, the awards show, to schedule an interview, or to become an official sponsor, please call J. Nez at (505) 488-8472 or e-mail: jovanii_nez@yahoo.com

Artist Spotlight: Chris Ferree
Inspired by his Cherokee heritage, North Carolina singer/songwriter Chris Ferree released his first Native American CD in 2007 titled Invocation. Influenced by Robert Mirabal, Bill Miller, and Mary Youngblood, among others. Invocation was rooted in the traditional, while balancing on the edges of world and classical.
A combination of strong traditional Native American flute, drums and percussion, fused with contemporary instruments and various ethnic sounds. The result was a ten song collection of diverse instrumentals that ranged from haunting and meditative to spontaneous and moving, reflecting the spiritual journey of a man looking into his past trying to find a way of understanding the present.
Chris's second Native American offering Overflow is a spiritually charged outpouring intended to at once lift the spirit and calm the soul, a fusion of sounds and influences breathed in over the years and released like a flood, full of power and passion.
Drawing inspiration from historical events and the stories of yesterday joined with a hopeful vision of what tomorrow may bring, this nine song CD, six instrumental and three vocal, is an act of worship filled with resonating drums, stirring percussion, and soaring flute, cascading through lush strings and pads, with flourishes of piano and strumming guitar, creating an emotional and melodic atmosphere of sounds.
Overflow, like Invocation, pushes the boundaries of the traditional, blending jazz, folk, world, and classical, bringing a familiar sound into the future. But if you listen closely you can hear echoes of the past and a deep admiration for the heritage from which this beautiful music was born.
"I hope you enjoy and embrace these songs as much as I hope they honor and respect the Principle people of this land, those who walked the red road long ago and those who long to walk it now."
The Sovereign Cherokee Nation Tejas is the Texas Cherokee Nation who’s Sovereignty was recognized in 1836 by President Sam Houston of the Republic of Texas.
The SCNT came to what was known as new Spain. Spain gave the Nation a land grant that extended from Nacogdoches in the east to the Rio Grande in the west north to the Canadian border east to the east boundary of new Spain then south to the red river back to Nacogdoches.
They were allies to Mexico when they won their independence from France in 1811, and signed a treaty with the provisional government of the republic of Texas in 1835, Sam Houston and Chief Bowles were signators to the treaty.
Floyd Red Crow Westerman - "A Tribute To Johnny Cash"
"I Think Johnny Cash would be especially proud of this tribute album. Not just because of his high regard for Floyd Red Crow Westerman or his own life-long identification with Native Americans and commitment to their cause, but because it is such a respectful, loving portrayal of the man’s work. Floyd’s deep, powerful voice resonates with the truth. I had no idea he could sound so much like John."- Kris Kristofferson
This CD features Johnny Cash songs performed by world renown Native American actor, singer, songwriter and advocate Floyd Red Crow Westerman, who is best remembered for his role as elder/leader Ten Bear in "Dances With Wolves". His work and dedication have helped spread the American Indian Movement’s message throughout the world.
He has performed with countless musicians including Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Jackson Brown, Bonnie Raitt, Joni Mitchell, John Trudell and Don Henley in large benefit concerts for Indian self-determination, human rights and environmental protection. He toured the world with Sting to publicize the plight of the Rainforest and has been an ambassador of good will representing the International Indian Treaty Council.Floyd writes: "Johnny Cash was very proud of his Cherokee heritage, and was a great supporter of American Indian issues. I had the great honor to meet and be on the same bill with Johnny Cash. It was a night to remember."

Artist Spotlight: SOTIW "Sketches in Time"
I first learned of Michael Joseph in 2005 with his release of "O-Glepi" which is a hauntingly beautiful set of 12 tracks. Michael combined his talents on both flute and acoustic guitar. The result is a peaceful journey that I continue to enjoy 3 years later.
Michael and Derek Mortland have created SOTIW (pronounced So too), "Sketches in Time". This music is best described as a New Age, Eclectic, World and fusion Jazz, and it has no boundaries.
It all works flawlessly from the first note of the first track, right to the end of the CD. When you have finished this journey you will feel invigorated, and craving for more!
We are pleased to present SOTIW, "Sketches in Time" …!
The other day I received "Unconquered" and once again Brad has undergone a metamorphosis. This time with the amazing Jeff Carpenter, Boyd Weldon Gross and James Monroe they are "Injunuity" and they FLY!
Injunuity is a group of highly talented and respectful masters of their craft. Keep an eye on these young men.
We expect great things for them. Please allow us to introduce "Injunuity"!
I have been a fan of Robert Mirabal, and playing his music, for almost a decade. Robert is truly one of the most gifted entertainers in the world today. Raised traditionally, and living in the Taos Pueblo, Robert's music and stories combine his Tiwa heritage with a cutting-edge crossover style.
Robert recently released "In The Blood" on his new Star Road Records label and this album is "Pure Robert".
A lot of songs feature his Tiwa language and heritage and it will mesmerize you!
