American Composer George Frederick McKay
George Frederick McKay is an historic Pacific Coast composer who included musical folk-lore and Native American themes in his symphonic music. Among his orchestral suites are "From A Moonlit Ceremony" and "Tlingit" both based on true folk song from the Northwest and Alaska. Professor McKay had Native American ancestors from the 17th Century in America and was intent on preserving the true American culture and links to the natural environment through his musical compositions. He is known as the Dean of Northwest Composers and taught many famous musicians, including William Bolcom (Pulitzer Prize), Earl Robinson (Academy Award), Goddard Lieberson (President of CBS Records, and original record producer for West Side Story, South Pacific and many other plays), John Cage, & Ken Benshoof. McKay was a faculty member at the University of Washington for 40 years, and his music was often performed on the national scene by conductors like Leopold Stokowski, Sir Thomas Beecham, and Howard Hanson. Currently seven of his symphonic works are recorded by NAXOS records in world-wide distribution, and they are often played now on the radio throughout the world.

Through pure ingenuity, Lomayesva has combined the culture and spirituality of his upbringing on a Hopi reservation with the positive vibes of traditional reggae music. The result is a union between the sounds of reggae music and the philosophies of Hopi culture." "I'm just a messanger passing through life, a soldier of this generation," Lomayesva said. Chris Ferree
Chris Ferree
Inspired by his Cherokee heritage, North Carolina singer/songwriter Chris Ferree released his first Native American CD in 2007 titled Invocation. Influenced by Robert Mirabal, Bill Miller, and Mary Youngblood, among others. Invocation was rooted in the traditional, while balancing on the edges of world and classical. A combination of strong traditional Native American flute, drums and percussion, fused with contemporary instruments and various ethnic sounds. The result was a ten song collection of diverse instrumentals that ranged from haunting and meditative to spontaneous and moving, reflecting the spiritual journey of a man looking into his past trying to find a way of understanding the present. Chriss second Native American offering Overflow is a spiritually charged outpouring intended to at once lift the spirit and calm the soul, a fusion of sounds and influences breathed in over the years and released like a flood, full of power and passion. Drawing inspiration from historical events and the stories of yesterday joined with a hopeful vision of what tomorrow may bring, this nine song CD, six instrumental and three vocal, is an act of worship filled with resonating drums, stirring percussion, and soaring flute, cascading through lush strings and pads, with flourishes of piano and strumming guitar, creating an emotional and melodic atmosphere of sounds. Overflow, like Invocation, pushes the boundaries of the traditional, blending jazz, folk, world, and classical, bringing a familiar sound into the future. But if you listen closely you can hear echoes of the past and a deep admiration for the heritage from which this beautiful music was born. I hope you enjoy and embrace these songs as much as I hope they honor and respect the Principle people of this land, those who walked the red road long ago and those who long to walk it now. Chris lives in his hometown of Shelby, N.C. with his wife and three children. All of his recordings are done with long time friend and collaborator Brad Hord at his home studio in Kings Mountain N.C. He has recently signed with Nashville Noir, an independent digital distribution label based in Tennessee. Invocation is currently in the top sellers list at CDBaby, in the World and Native American categories. Invocation as well as Overflow were also selected as Editor's picks at CDBaby in the World and Native American categories. You can hear songs from Invocation and Overflow on: Native Radio Spirit Within Radio Pheonix Radio And the on XM Satellite Radio Program - Hand of Grandfather

Joanne Shenandoah
A singer/songwriter/performer & composer, Joanne Shenandoah has drawn upon her rich heritage in establishing a reputation as one of America's foremost Native recording artists. " When Joanne Shenandoah's first album came out, some critics dubbed her a Native American Enya. But this Iroquois singer has evolved beyond that, and "Peacemaker's Journey" is her most impressive album yet. . . . Like Enya singing in Gaelic, Shenandoah uses her voice as an instrument: its silken smooth tones draw the listener into her songs -- even if the listener doesn't understand the language. Lakota-inflective Folk Music gifted from the Black Hills
Rapid City Journal writes: "Black Hills folk singer-songwriter Bunny Sings Wolf ably fills the niche of local Earth Mother with unforgettable folk panache. The Lakota-inflected folk songs of her new CD, "White Haired Sunrise," are marked both by their spiritual and social awareness and Sings Wolf's delicate vocal delivery. No matter the outlook of the song, spiritual well-being seems to be the focus, and the natural world informs the music. Her organic folk is well-suited to her simple, straightforward performances." As unofficial cultural ambassador of the wide open sage-kissed prairies and hills in and around Wyoming's Black Hills area, the soulful music themes of a Bunny Sings Wolf performance beautifully brings forward indigenous ways while also honoring Western ranchers and rugged entrepreneurial settlers in true life experienced songs. Her haunting original tunes with pictorial story lyrics span cultural bridges by touching the hearts of all who value peace and freedom - highlighting an underlying earth-friendly world theme embodied in the words "Mitakuye Oyasin" (Lakota - we are all related). Accompanied by her gentle Folk-acoustic finger-picking guitar style, many of her songs were written to also solo her Native American wooden flutes or a drum accompaniment to create with her memorable voice, a gentle heart healing genre all her own. The Journal concludes: "Sings Wolf, of Newcastle, Wyo., made her name busking around the Black Hills (now delighting audiences nationally at) paid gigs captures the spirit of the Earth Mother and sets it free to roam the Black Hills again." Marc Brown and the Blues Crew
Marc Brown and the Blues Crew
Marc Brown introduced his Blues Crew once by saying, "you probably won't see another blues band with an Indian, an Eskimo, a black guy and a white guy." The diversity is accidental, says Brown, who is Athabascan.

The Blues Crew consists of Marc Brown on guitar and vocals, Eddie Stevens on sax, Charley Hard on keyboard, Randy Barker on drums and Robert Smith on bass. They have been playing together for about four years and have already released five cassettes and several CD’s that have sold thousands of copies locally. The group's most recent fame came with a victory in the battle of the bands held at the Greyhound lounge. The Crew was awarded the privilege of opening for ZZ top.

Besides touring all over Alaska for years, Marc has played after concert parties for the Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels, Travis Tritt, and Huey Lewis. Marc Brown and the Blues Crew have also opened for sold out performances by The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Eddie Shaw and the J Geils Band in Fairbanks. Their 2nd time opening for a big name act at the Carlson Center was August of 2000, where they opened for Jethro Tull.

Medicine Dream
Singing the Healing Dream.
Take the drum journey - feel the earth, free the spirit and honor your ancestors - as you travel with the rhythms of Medicine Dream's Native drum. The intertribal group's synergy, 10 musicians strong, create a spiritual-musical fusion - each beat of the drum is salve for the soul.

Traditional native vocals and the ubiquitous drum are the core of the contemporary yet traditional group's music. Group leader Paul Pike passes on drum wisdom learned from Tlingit elder Walter Austin: "Everything is connected....Over generations, as people pass, their molecules go into the earth, nourish the trees that become the drum, as the four-legged animals become the drum. It is part of us in some way," said Pike. "The drum is a way of life, a connection, a tie....it is timeless.".....

Michael Searching Bear
You have known Michael Searching Bear for his wonderful hand-crafted Searching Bear Flutes in the past. Now enjoy the wonderful tones of his flutes and musical background with his new CD release, "Voice From Within". "Voice From Within" has a variety of emotions which will take you on your wonderful journey within. Eighteen songs fill this release which is instrumented with solo flute and an array of percussion and natural sounds. The solo voice of Windwalker, Michael's sister, is a special highlight celebrating the beauty of the Cherokee language. All original recordings went into this journey which was mainly written and inspired by the Cherokee Trail of Tears journey in the 1830's. As Michael put it, "I was in mourning when I conceived this music. It is truly a journey from track 1 to track 17. See if you can feel it and come join in the journey." The final track is a duet with Windwalker and Michael which was captured in it's entirety with a fire being the atmosphere. " I wanted to capture the purity of the instrument," states Bill Hartzell, recording engineer for the project. The CD is now available for purchase directly from Searching Bear Flutes at www.searchingbearflutes.comOrder your copy today. "Voice From Within" can also be found at Amazon.com, Borders.com, CD Baby, or CD Streets soon. Prices may vary at these locations. Wa do

murder of crows
murder of crows
Murder of Crows is a sound project (experimental, electronic, black metal, industrial) that explores the almost extinct culture of my people (Shahala in sw washington on the columbia river) and the spriitual connection I have to this land. These sounds are the drums of my soul beating against the occupation of life. These songs whisper, dance and scream the inevitiability of the coming storm and, in this, I attempt to live in balance with the world around me in all its darkness and light. I call upon the long memory of my ancestors and all of my relations to comprehend time and space. . To All My Relations! si~ murder of crows

Native Thunder
Native Thunder
NATIVE THUNDER'S BIOGRAPHY The Group came together in the year 2000, which has started with Jason Snell and Mitch Vann Jamming together, realizing they were on to something special they then recruited Kevin Soap as bassist. Although they are Native American. Don't expect to hear Pow wow Drums. On their recordings. These guys write rock songs, straight from the heart. Since 2000 they have come a long way & many changes have been made. Mitch and Kevin have left the group to be at home with their families. Jason Snell, Lead Vocals, Guitars come from a long line of musicians in his family. He first picked the guitar at age 13, and has'nt put it down yet! Jason began writing his own music at age 19. Had lyrics of his own songs published in poetry collections, and also a member of the Cherokee Nation Tribe. His vocal style is unique, a cross between Kevin Cronin, Steve Perry, and Bryan Adams. His guitar style is similar to that of Eddie Van Halen, Neal Schon, Richie Sombora, etc,. Timmy Kingfisher on drums and vocals, and Rodney Buckhorn on bass and vocals. Timmy is also a acomplished flute maker and flute player, Rodney is a monster bassist and guitarist as well. One band goal is to tour Indian Country and meet and entertain as many tribes and Nations as possible. But he will play anywhere the fans want him. Including some of the old Native Thunder classics. NT really brings the songs to life with his Perry/Cronin/Bryan Adams, like vocals and he edits the songs the way he see fits

Red Rhythm Band
Red Rhythm Band
In 2002, after twelve years with the Oklahoma-based blues group Blues Nation, guitarist Dusty Miller and drummer Terry Tsotigh, co-founders and core musicians of Blues Nation, teamed up with bassist Dustin Miller and began to focus on their own style of music, crafting a new sound from timeless roots.  In the fall of 2003, the trio furthered the groundwork for their music by bringing on percussionist Bobby Heddleston and vocalist Lacy Saunders.  Bobby’s smooth transition from drums and Lacy’s extraordinary vocal talent completed the band’s style, and the music of the Red Rhythm Band was shaped into the driving sound it has become-an alluring, progressive fusion of rock and blues.

Roland P. Young
Roland P. Young
Roland P. Young ISOPHONIC NATION Press Release rolandpyoung.com rpy@rolandpyoung.com Flow Chart Records -/News/ - Brooklyn, New York, USA, 11/10/2006 proud and excited to announce the new CD release, ISOPHONIC NATION (FC 1024), from multi-instrumentalist, composer, and performer Roland P. Young. We are This release features music for Native American flutes, Kalimba, voice and electronic accoutrements. Roland has, since the days if his groundbreaking ensemble, Infinite Sound (1750 Arch Records), played bamboo flutes, including the Shakuhachi, although until now he has not incorporated them into his recorded compositions. His favorite bass bamboo flute was made for him by the late great Raphael Garrett (string bass, bass clarinet, clarinet and bamboo flutes) who played and recorded with John Coltrain and who taught Roland some of the most advanced breathing and improvising techniques that he still employs. Roland always traveled with his bass flute and played it as a breathing, posture aligning and centering instrument while on the road. A few years ago Roland traveled to New Mexico and met Sky Redhawk who introduced him to the Native American flute, verifying one of Roland’s views of life that “when the student is ready the teacher will appear.” Roland was captivated by this instrument and acquired several Native American flutes while touring New Mexico. The Native American flute, along with the Japanese Shakuhachi and the East Indian Bansuri, is the premier and most antiquitous of wooden flutes. Roland plays red and white cedar, birch, and walnut Native American flutes. Upon his return from his inspiring trip to New Mexico Roland devoted day and night to the theory, study and practice of this infinitely complex and simple instrument. He noticed that many of the concepts that he has employed on the clarinet, bass clarinet and soprano saxophone translated into a new level of breath and posture on the Native American flute. He started composing and recording and the results are 11 richly unified compositions that reflect his Isophonic concept. We present to you, ISOPHONIC NATION, Ambient Electronica for the Post Age. Enjoy, embrace and tell a friend! Available at cdbaby.com and for pay music Internet download sites.

Sierra Noble - 17 year old Canadian Metis fiddler
"Noble glides her bow easily across the gut of her violin with a willowy abandon" Sierra Noble is known around her home in Canada as the "15 year old fiddling sensation." She has been learning the traditional style of the Metis from the elder fiddlers since she was 8 years old. For many years Sierra has been promoting the Metis music and culture in everything she does, everywhere she goes. She takes the traditional tunes and mixes them with her style and a slightly more contemporary sound for the youth. She does her performances anywhere from intimate shows with just fiddle and guitar, all the way out to a full 5 piece band behind her rockin' it out all night long. Check it out and you'll be jiggin' all day!

Thunder Bird Sisters
The Thunder Bird Sisters, grandchildren of Chief Thunder Bird, are a unique group of musicians, singers and writers. They are members of the Shinnecock Nation and reside on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation. Their music includes original compositions that reflect the culture out of which they come. As indigenous women, they are storytellers -- singing of traditional ways of life in the Natural World and our sacred connection to Creation.

The Thunder Bird Sisters' music offers a commentary on social issues that have historically faced their people, and continue to confront Indian People to this day.

For nearly 25 years the group has traveled, nationally and internationally, sharing their "Songs of the Struggle." Their blending harmony expresses the relatedness of all things. In addition to their original music, they also perform works of various other artists.

In all their music the Thunder Bird Sisters seek to personify the native proverb, "Walk in Beauty."

WhitefishBay Singers Website
WhitefishBay Singers Website
The Whitefish Bay Singers began in the 1970's. The drum group comprised of a few members of Whitefish Bay First Nation. Andy White, the drum keeper, initiated the idea of starting the Whitefish Bay Singers along with his uncle and son. Andy says that he began the group because he felt like singing. The first big pow-wow they tested their vocal talents was at a Treaty #3 gathering in Kenora, Ontario in 1973. Thus, creating the first stepping stone to where the Whitefish Bay Singers are today...

Under the guidance of webmaster, and adviser, Daryl Dragon, the 'Captain" of 70's duo, The Caotain and Tennille, Jimmy has carved a niche in, and outside of Native American music. Along with longtime pal drummer/percussionist Gil Gabaldon II, Jimmy has just released his 2nd CD, dedicated to his mother of Mayan descent. MICHAEL JOSEPH: O-GLEPI (self-released) "There's something charming about the music of guitarist/songwriter Michael Joseph Ulery. His promotional material emphasizes his mixed heritage, not just his Native American roots, and his mixed musical background (rock/punk/jazz/blues/classical/bluegrass). And his acoustic music reflects the mind of someone being who he is, not some marketing ideal. O-Glepi begins with folky acoustic guitar chords under a Native flute melody called "Ancestors Song." Then a hit of acoustic blues guitar with flute on "Gourdhead." The flutes mesh well with the guitar, and are featured on two solo tracks. Michael Joseph shows off his own licks on the multitracked "Red on White (Blood on Snow)." He's clear about his music, saying "It is not meant to represent any one particular culture...like the artist...it is a product of various musical and cultural influences." Humble and refreshing, O-Glepi is a sweet taste of contemporary acoustic music with Native (and other) roots." Scott Stevens, Spin the Globe KAOS
